What Is the SGFT Underground Cable Fault Locator?

The SGFT is a complete set for finding faults in buried power cables, not a single box. It combines a TDR pre-locator, a ten-pulse generator, an integrated 32kV surge source, plus acoustic pinpointing and route tracing.
In practice, crews use it in this order: prelocate distance from the test end, trace the route, then listen for the discharge right above the fault. It handles open, short, low-resistance, high-resistance leakage and flashover faults on different voltage levels, sections and insulation materials..
What Are the Features of This Underground Cable Fault Locator?
12.1-inch high-brightness LCD, Linux system, knob + touch operation. Works in direct sunlight, shockproof engineering case.
Three test modes in one host: low-voltage pulse, impulse current flash, and multiple pulse. Auto locks inflection points and reads distance.
Ten waveforms on one screen. Auto area + manual area + global area displayed together. You can expand either for carding.
Ten low-voltage pulses in one HV shot. The software picks the best one automatically, so large oscillation interference is much lower.
Wi-Fi + SIM for remote waveform sharing. The app supports remote help, case sharing and training.
Lithium powered, about 6 hours continuous, 5kg host. 32G storage, Chinese/English/Russian switchable.
How Should the System Be Maintained?
Store the instruments in a clean, dry, and protected environment.
Charge lithium-powered units before extended field work.
If equipment remains unused for a long period, recharge and inspect it periodically.
Keep signal connectors, test leads, clips, and probes clean and undamaged.
Review stored waveform files when recurring faults occur on the same cable route.
Do not open the main chassis or repair high-voltage equipment without authorization.

Why Work with Dualcanopy for a Cable Fault Location Solution?
Dualcanopy can help buyers select a suitable configuration based on their cable network, operating conditions, and fault-location requirements. Rather than choosing equipment only by voltage rating, buyers should also consider cable length, cable insulation medium, fault type, test method, and whether route tracing or final pinpointing is required.
For an accurate quotation, please provide:
Cable voltage class
Cable type and conductor cross-section
Estimated cable length
Installation environment: underground, tunnel, tray, duct, or overhead transition
Fault symptoms and insulation-resistance information
Whether route tracing and pinpointing accessories are required
Local input power requirement
Preferred language for the interface and documentation
How Does the Test Workflow Work?
1. nalyze fault nature, isolate both ends, release zero-line ground.
2. Low-voltage pulse to measure length and calibrate velocity (e.g. XLPE ~172 m/us).
3. Select method by insulation: <10Zo try pulse; >10Zo use multiple pulse with HV.
4. Trace route with 9.6kHz transmitter.
5. Apply impact HV every 3-4s, pinpoint 10m around rough distance.
If red/blue waveforms fully overlap, fault hasn't broken down - raise HV or reduce delay, don't keep sampling.
FAQ
Can waveform data be saved?
Yes. The main tester supports waveform storage, historical data review, replay, and analysis functions.
Is the equipment suitable for live cable testing?
No. The cable must be isolated and prepared in accordance with applicable electrical safety procedures before fault testing begins.
What information is needed before ordering?
Please provide cable voltage, cable length, cable material, fault type if known, required test method, and whether you need route tracing or pinpointing functions.
