What Is the SGBB-III Transformer Turns Ratio Tester?

product-734-808

The SGBB-III is a portable, mains-powered instrument for measuring the turns ratio, or voltage ratio, of power transformers and voltage transformers. A built-in three-phase digital supply excites the winding, and the comparison circuit resolves ratios from 0.9 up to 10,000 at 0.0001 resolution. Operation is one press of OK: wire the leads, confirm the parameters, and a typical three-phase run finishes in about 10 seconds. What moves it ahead of the old bench setup is automatic vector-group identification, so the group number is found by the instrument instead of worked out by hand...

What Are the Advantages of the SGBB-III?

One unit covers the whole band. From 0.9 to 10,000 you span small distribution transformers up to main power units without swapping instruments between jobs.

Excitation comes from inside the case. The three-phase digital supply drives the winding directly, so repeat runs hold steady even when the site voltage wobbles.

The group number finds itself. Enter the rated values from the nameplate, set the group field to "XX", and the instrument identifies the vector group on its own. No angle book, no calculator.

Ten seconds per three-phase run. The test phase finishes in roughly 10 seconds, which matters when a commissioning morning holds a queue of units.

Made for the field, not just the lab. Five kilograms, a full-transmission LCD that stays legible in direct sunlight, and a low-noise thermal printer for the site copy.

What are the features of the SGBB-III?

Measurement range 0.9 – 10,000, resolution 0.0001, accuracy 0.2 class

Tests Z-connection (zigzag / Zinoviev) transformers

Blind-test ratio and group-test functions

Clock and date retained after power-down; records savable to USB

Reverse-polarity protection on HV/LV inputs, short-circuit protection

Thermal printer output, fast and low-noise

Full-transmission large-screen LCD, readable in sunlight

USB port for data storage, RS232 for program upgrades

Standby power option for continued testing when the mains fails

Where Is the SGBB-III Used?

Transformer factories run the ratio test on semi-finished and finished units before they leave the line; the preventive test code of the state power department makes it a standing requirement, and the same code calls for the test again before a newly installed transformer is put into operation. Beyond the factory, the instrument shows up at commissioning (first energization of a new substation unit), on the utility's periodic preventive-test calendar, in the PT/VT room, and in service workshops where a suspect unit needs a fast pass/fail answer before it is opened up.

Typical users: transformer factories, EPC commissioning crews, utility maintenance departments, voltage-transformer makers, and repair workshops.

What Precautions Should You Follow When Using the SGBB-III?

  • Connect the earthing rod to earth before every test. This prevents electric shock, and it is the one step crews skip most often.

Place the unit on a stable platform. The case is not rated to survive a drop.

Feed it AC 230 V ±10% only. Other voltages can damage the supply.

Keep foreign objects out of the chassis; a dropped screw can short the supply.

If the test current runs high and it is not a short circuit, select the 10 V power option.

On standby power the vector group cannot be auto-identified; enter the group number from the nameplate.

If a reading looks wrong, re-check the circuit and the tapping position before retesting.

Why Choose Dual Canopy?

Hebei Dual Canopy Mechanic Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise that integrates research, design, production, sales and technical service around power-equipment testing. The SGBB-III is designed and produced in our own plant, which means the engineer who answers your service call is part of the same team that built the instrument. Alongside ratio testers we supply transformer oil test instruments, high-voltage test sets and protection testers, so one supplier can cover a full substation test program. We serve customers in the power, railway, shipbuilding, telecommunications and municipal sectors, and our export business is growing.

FAQ

Q1: What range does the SGBB-III measure, and how accurately?
A: Ratios from 0.9 to 10,000, at 0.0001 resolution and 0.2 accuracy class. That covers distribution units up to main power transformers on a single instrument.

Q2: Does it handle three-phase and Z-connection transformers?
A: Yes. ThreeTest covers three-phase units, and Z-connection (zigzag / Zinoviev) windings have their own test path in the same menu.

Q3: Can I save test records for later?
A: Yes. Results go to internal flash memory or a USB flash drive, each with its serial number, date and time. The History menu lets you recall, re-print or export them.
