What are the precautions for use?
1. A wind shield is essential! Open-cup tests are extremely sensitive to airflow. During testing, the instrument must be surrounded by wind shields on three sides, laboratory doors and windows must be tightly closed, and air conditioning vents must never blow directly onto the instrument; otherwise, the flash point value can drop by more than ten degrees Celsius.
2. Do not overfill the oil sample. When pouring oil, the liquid level must be exactly at the graduation mark inside the oil cup. Pouring too much will cause the oil to overflow upon heating, invalidating the data and potentially causing a fire.
3. Be careful of splashing when testing asphalt. If the asphalt sample contains moisture, heating it above 100 degrees Celsius will produce foam and even splash. Ensure the sample is dry before sampling, or keep personnel away from the instrument during heating.
How should I perform maintenance and upkeep?
Cleaning carbon deposits and oil stains: After testing heavy oil or asphalt, a layer of black ash will remain on the ignition tube and sensor probe. After each use, wipe clean with a cotton swab dipped in solvent while the oil is still warm.

The two cannot be used interchangeably; the selection must be strictly based on the method specified in the product standard.
